It will work very well. Other issues you need to be concerned with if your playing high end games ie: Fear, Oblivion, etc. is your video card and memory. You don't mention what you have so I can't embelish any further.

yes it would work. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ is one of the most powerful CPU around today

Like a GOD, 4200 is equivalent to a 3.6 GHz on the back of game boxes.

P4 is a very very old processor, at least 3 years.

Yes your processor blows even the best Pentium 4s and Pentium Ds out of the water. The only Intel processors better than yours are the Core 2 Duos.

Yes it would, pretty much any Athalon made since 2002 would be considered a P4 eqiuvalent, maybe even earlier.

Usually it means that you CPU should be around 1-2GHZ at least.
