My son is having a medieval feast at his school and the teacher wants everyone to try to dress up for it. I searched the Net, but all that turns up is expensive outfits to buy or homemade costumes that will cost me more to make than if I just bought one. I just wondered if there's any creative people out there who could give me some good ideas on a cost effective costume without it being too cheesy?

get free boxes from any store, just ask for them. cut them to shape a frame of armor for your child. completely cover with aluminum foil, embelish with markers, they show up well on the foil. then wrap around the child snugly, attach with packing tape, because it's clear. As for accessories, same thing with sword or mask, start with cardboard as the base, wrap and secure the foil on outside & add color or artwork with markers.

you should go to the internet and see what the costume u want looks like and just go to different stores like dollar store ,target, walmart and cheap places like that and collect items and just put them together to make one outfit

Have you tried local stores like Target? Last time I was at Target they had rows and rows and rows of Halloween costumes.
