does it hurt?

At the doctor's office where I work, they only give pelvic exams to women or teens who are sexually active. So, no pelvic exam if you're a virgin, unless you have some sort of health problem in that area, like abnormal periods. Pap smears are also only done on sexually active women and teenagers, since they can detect some sexually transmitted diseases and cervical cancer, which can be caused by the sexually transmitted disease Human Papilloma Virus.

And no, pelvic exams don't hurt if you're not a virgin. They're not fun, but they don't hurt.

Yes, an OBGYN will give you a pelvic exam if the need is there, whether you are a virgin or not. But please discard a lot of the other responses, because some are extremely BIASED. The truth is, even though you are a virgin, it isn't going to be like the most excrutiating pain ever. The OBGYN will ask if you are sexually actiive, in which they will know how gentle to be. Remember , they are PROFFESSIONALS, and are there to help you, not hurt you. It is uncomfortable at first, even for a non-virgin, but the anxiety of the visit is way worse than the visit. They do have different instruments for different cervix sizes, small one for tiny girls/virgins, and larger instruments for women who have poopped out 4 or 5 kids. So don't base your fear on what anyone else has said to you. Just be open with the OBGYN, tell her that this is new to you and I guarantee she will tell you everything I just said, and will take extra care to make you as comfy as possible! Just relax and breathe normally, it will be over before you know it! You will be just fine girl!

Yes and sometimes they can tell if you are or arent anymore. It is uncomfortable for a second but it could be worse. Doesnt really hurt and its over quick. Just stare at the ceiling and think about something else and before you know it you are done.

Well a pap smear is not needed if you are not sexually active. If you need to be checked for an infection he can take just a cotton swab. If you are going to start bith control he may do some checking but you won't need a pap. aif you do become active then you must start scheduling annual pap exams. Good luck!

Doctors will give you a pap if you are a virgin but if it is uncomfortable, it is not b/c you are a virgin. They take a scrap (sample) and that is a little painful but I won't worry about it.

yes they will to if your hymn isn't in place... you could still have problems with your cervix..... if you have to do it make sure you relax and take deep breaths and it won't be as bad as if you are tense down there...... I hate doing those things!!!
