The first thing to do, is never go to bed at night with a dirty kitchen. Always make sure there is no food left out. If you leave it out, they will come. Clean all surfaces with a disinfectant. Then go to the store and purchase "Bengal Roach Spray." It is the best I've found so far. Cockroaches are everywhere and no one is immune, but you can keep most of them away just by keeping the kitchen clean after you've sprayed the poison.

The best thing to do is bomb your place. You will have to leave for a few hours but I think it is the best way. The real question is why do you have them? If you live in a house that is not attached to anything else than you need to keep your house cleaner. They love to come in via cardboard boxes. So if you get a lot of UPS deliveries etc. make sure you get rid of the boxes ASAP. If you live in an apartment buildng the problem may be your neighbros. The little buggers will go through your walls via plumbing etc. You may have to get your apt. manager involved and tell them you are having a problem with your neighbor and ask them to clean up their house a bit.

You didn't say if it was an apartment or private home....If an apt. they are in the walls, and most likely your neighbors have them too...Lived in Fla. for years, so bad down there, cockroaches love moisture...there are a couple things you can do that can help get rid of them...If you have them in your kitchen, they can be anywhere in your home...they love warm places like the fridge compressor, electronic appliances, like a tv set....If you can bomb your house, get a good product, not the cheap ones...get one can for every room and if at all possible stay gone longer than it says, but be sure to air it out really good before returning to stay....It is a process, but wipe down everything you can, lysol cleaner etc....then get some Combat roach bait traps....put them everywhere!!! the momma roach eggs have hundreds of baby roaches in them and one can start the process all over again. Vaccum with a fresh bag, and thoroughly vaccum, if you have one with the hose attachment, go along the base boards. Make sure your gas appliances, if any are turned off...You can also get the insecticide called "Spectricide". and spray under your fridge and such...I lived in Fla. a long time, notorious for roaches.....it is a time consuming process, but we finally got rid of them the way I described....(they love any hiding place, any, box springs, linen closet, dark spaces, anywhere)....wash everything really good...If you have little kids, the crumbs. Pets? their food...put away after they eat....Good luck cause it is annoying to see those things....I hate them!

The above answers that said Boric Acid are correct. Boric Acid gets rid of cockroaches. But it is poisonous and should be kept away from pets and kids, by putting it behind and under heavy furniture. Be careful with whatever you use, because if it can kill roaches, it tends to be pretty strong.

Of course poisons won't work well because after contionus exposure to them the surviving roaches become immune and you have to keep switching to more and more toxins. The best advice i can give is get the Black & Decker direct plug in pest repeller. It works for roaches. spiders and mice. You plug them in and it give off ultrasonic waves that annoy the pest and they leave. I just got some for our problem with mice. I bought a set of three at Home Depot for $19.00. I'm sure you can find them at Target, Walmart, Kmart or what ever is the closest store near you that has a hardware section.

Good Luck.

I had a problem with cockroaches until I got "Hot Shot Roach and Ant." It lasts up to 12 weeks and you can spray it directly on the bug if you see it, or spray it in common areas that you know the bug will come in contact. It is safe to have around pets once it is dry and it drys pretty quickly.

The most effective way to get rid of roaches is by sprinkling boric acid powder along baseboards and any other place roaches can be found. Boric acid is not dangerous to pets or children. It is as dangerous or safe as normal table salt. It gets on the roaches as they walk through it and they carry it back to their nests and it gets on others. When they clean themselves it gets into their mouth parts and causes chemical Burns and then they cannot eat and then they die.

Boric Acid. It's a powder you can get at Walmart or other stores. Spray it in the back of your cabinets--especially under the sink; take off your wall socket covers and put it in the walls, too. They'll be gone in 2-3 days.
