Sorry for the rant, but after watching the documentary on Barry Goldwater I was saddened to think how far his party has strayed away from his vision. It is no longer his party. Instead of a strong foreign policy we have one mired in sound bites and tunnel vision. Instead of a party that tries to provide jobs and hold the line on spending we have a party for whom too much is never enough and social issues go to the head of the class. I used to be a conservative when it meant something. It doesn't anymore. The neocons have taken over. It is all about the profit motive. Idealism plays second fiddle and off key.

You mean as opposed to the compassionate conservatives and neocons in power now? Absolutely! And it's me!

I believe:

Religion and government are like electricity and water. Both are vital and have their place, but were never meant to be mingled.
Drug laws are bunk. The FDA should require safe - let the market judge effective. And I see no reason to spend $50+thousand/year on every pot-smoker who decides to get caught and thrown in jail. Let them go - what they do is their business.
The IRS is bunk - talk about unreasonable search and siezure! A simple 10% sales tax on all items will do. Let the government learn to live on a budget like the rest of us - no more country-building and bridges to nowhere.
The Dept of Education is bunk. Education belongs at the state and local level. End of story.
The Dept of Energy is bunk. Despite many years of existence, they have yet to formulate a national strategy. What do they do anyway?
I could go on and on.
I believe in the constitution and a government that works to defends my rights, not become a clearing house for perks for the politically favored.

If it wasn't almost 6:30 in the morning, and if it wasn't for the fact that I have yet to sleep, I'd elaborate.
