Lately I keep waking up after a couple of hours sleep and can't get my head down again. I've nothing on my mind that is keeping me awake that I'm aware of. Can anyone give me some advice?

If you keep waking up in the middle of the night it could be you're creative and your creative juices flowing.Write down what's in you rmind everytime you wake-up - start keeping a journal and record your visions. This way you can compensate the time you lost in the morning hours. You should alzo listen to your body more:if you feel sleepy, sleep wherever there's sleeping space. Also when you're sleeping you're taking a nap,you could turn the radio or tv on if you feel you can't sleep if it's quiet.

I'm an insomniac, sounds like you are just a light sleeper. An insomniac has constantly interrupted periods of sleep - I wake every 30 minutes or so for about 15 minutes each time, when it happens I am wide-awake but have to force myself back to sleep otherwise I'd be a zombie. I still wake up refreshed in the morning but can only function til about mid-afternoon as the sleep deprivation kicks in.
Try not eating or drinking anything past 10pm (or for at least a couple of hours before you go to bed)

i figured it out after many years that some breads have active ingredients which keep your mind alert. Try the omega brands as well as the omega butters and margarines.keep your sugars to a minimum and steer clear of cafine's. Trry and get your body into a routine going to bed at a certain time every night even if you r not tired. you will get used to it and eventually sleep, i did!

Let me sleep on it. And after that, I will provide you some advice. Hey, ask Dan Landers - http://www.tri-umphs.com/Humor/danlanders.html

But really, though, I can relate although I have this to say: "The more I sleep the less I am able to dream."

If you can't sleep, do something constructive - write, read etc. and after awhile you'll be able to get some sleep again, and most likely, uninterrupted.

I lost a lot of sleep thinking about this. You can use chocolate (it is a narcotic) or an alcoholic drink (a depressant) to help you get to sleep. Contrary to popular belief, people sleep better on a full stomach too.

Yes.

I used to beat it by listening to speeches by politicians. The ones that sent me to sleep the quickest where the ones by John Major.

Unfortunately I have lost the tapes :(

Try not having any caffeine at least 2 hours before bed time. Try not watching TV in bed.
