Good question. God ordained marriage so that people can multiply without sinning. Marriage is honourable in all and the bed is undefiled. To have sex before marriage is to commit the sin of fornication. To have sex after marriage is to commit the sin of adultery. The only way to keep people from sinning is to get married. After marriage, the husband had the legal right over the woman and the wife had the legal right over the man, which means that the wife's physical body belongs to the husband alone and the husband 's physical body belongs to the wife exclusively. Husband's role is to love his wife and the wife's role is to submit to her husband. Therefore these two shall be one flesh, and their union can only be separated by death beause what God had join together no man put asunder.

The bible says that man should not be alone so he made eve to be with adam as his help meet(see genesis2:18-24).God ordained marriage because of the way husbands and wives were to live;and that was too glorify God.The roles of husbands and wives are to be in harmony/right relationship with God.And as a result of that right relationship with God then they will ultimately treat each other right and their friends, family etc.

The Bible says many things about marriage. One part says a man must have but one wife; another says you can have many wives if you are the king; none say that you have to be married by the legal authorities. That is a modern recognition of a couple choosing to bond together to have chidren. Marriage is to protect the children, not the spouse. It is a wonderful book that can mean many things to many people.

God said that it is not good for man to be alone. So he made woman. Adam was very happy and spouted poetry. "bone of my bone flesh of my flesh.. she will be called WOOO MAN..." The biblical role is that the woman is supposed to be a compliment to the man. Working side by side. At the time of adam and eve (the first marrage ordained by God) it was to work together to subdue the earth, name the animals and all that. FILL THE EARTH... ooo good times. The husband is not suposed to lord over her. He is to listen to the advise of his wife like abraham did. The way that Jesus Lovingly tends to the congregation. A man should love his wife as his own flesh. Wife should be suportive, and like spiritual iron... so that iron can sharpen iron. Marrage.. DON'T DO IT! hehe

It says that when you marry you are to leave your mother and Father and cleave to each other the man unto his wife. It states that the wife should Cleave unto the husband and obey him. It also says that the husband treat his wife like he treats his body. Which to me that means pretty darn good treatment since they feed, clothe and pamper it pretty well and don't deprive it of anything they can afford. So, if a man does that for his wife she has no problem obeying him . That's how I interprit the marriage of the king James version bible.

I think it would be terribly narrow minded to assume that God only speaks to us through the bible.

Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the marriage bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Ephesians 5 22-33 Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as the unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands love your wives, even as Christ also loved t he church, and gave himself for it. That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that He might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh: but nourisheth and cherisheth it and even as the Lord the church. For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For t his cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself: and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Marriage to me is a sacred bond between man and woman....one that states no matter what we will work through anything that life sends our way. Sickness, health, rich or poor......no matter what together side by side there is nothing that God and the couple cant make it through. In today's society people dont take the marriage vows seriously at all. The first sign of any little problem, or the I dont love you anymore syndrome, or maybe its the im bored deal, or maybe its the irreconcilable differences thing anyway you slice it people run to file for divorce. Whatever happened to death do us part?

Now notice in the above scripture I copied down that God says for husbands to respect t heir wives and love them......this means DO NOT verbally, physically, mentally or emotionally abuse your wives......but treat them with honor and love them unconditionally as God loves you. Same goes for the wife.......dont abuse your husbands in any way.....instead respect them, listen to them and honor them and love them as God loves you.

I also believe as it says in the scripture that the marriage bed is to remain undefilied.....meaning.......you do not cheat on your husband if you are a wive and the husband does not cheat on the wife....one of the reasons I believe God did create marriage was to meet the needs of both men and women as far as sex goes because he never intended for us to go sleeping around with every guy or for the guy to go sleeping around with every girl.

Marriage isnt a game and it isnt a joke.....its sacred, both husbands and wives should commit to their relationship and respect each other and stick by each other through thick or thin......Just as Jesus sticks by us no matter what and would never think of leaving us.
