In Australian culture, a bogan is person who is, or is perceived to be, unsophisticated or of a lower class background with speech and mannerisms defined as having poor education and uncultured upbringing mostly amongst the white, working-class people.

To highlight with some bogan characteristics: White, poor, unattractive, unintelligent, uneducated, usually with blue-collar job, violent, fast-foods lovers, heavy drinker and maybe drug user, a smoker, and generally living in a low standard and undecent life.

Fashionwise, bogan is described having an attire which includes jeans or black leggings, flannelette shirts, Moccasin-style slippers, ugg (sheepskin)boots, with tattoos and other inappropriate out of fashion outfits.Wearing a "mullet" hairstyle, or bleached hair with regrowth showing is another characteristic.

Bogan is equivalent to British term "chav", and the US phrase "white trash" or "redneck".

What Americans call "white trash." It isn't commonly used all over Australia, some parts tend to use the term "Bevan" or "dag" more than bogan. It's also pretty light hearted, it's not a term used to really hurt someones feelings, but it's also not an endearment. Where I live, we use "dag" more often and that's more like a doofus or a dork.

A bogan is a low-class working stiff. Same as a 'chav' in Britain, or 'white trash' in America.
