I believe that marijuana is a lot safer than alcohol. It should be legalized, but the government would screw it all up with taxes, and the cigarette companies would doctor it up with poisons to keep it from going out when laid in an ashtray, to "taste" better, etc.

The only reason that it was made "illegal" in the first place is because the cotton growers were afraid of the competition from hemp--which is comparable or better than cotton in all ways, and cheaper to produce.

I, personally, don't like the high, but that's because I have a paranoid view of things in general, and I don't need anything to enhance that...(HaHa). But, if deadly alcohol, which CAN be addictive, is legal, why not the rather innocuous weed, cannabis?

edit: Hey, Tinkerbell? You think you're Peter Pan's fairy friend--how would YOU know if anything causes brain damage????

edit #2----I love how folks always mention that marijuana use can lead to stronger drugs...you know what almost EVERY drug user started out on? MILK!

i believe Marijuana should be legalized because of several reasons
1) it would save a lot of tax payers money searching for marijuana when they could be looking for the drugs that are worse like Meth and haroine.
2) It is used for medicinal purposes, Isn't it kinda of messed up that something that is illegal is medicinal, its kinda of like saying ok it helps but we are making it illegal to have or use because we can
3) Here is something to Think about it was called Proabition The illegalization of alcohal How long did that last and what did they finally do.
My opinion is that they should legalize marijuana for the reason that it would help save tax payers money. also it would cause less problems and there would be less people in jail for some stupic thing as smoking or eating marijuana trying to get rid of a head ache or to help them sleep or even keep there stress and anxiety down.

I agree with it in principle, with strict control for minors and health advisories.
-I believe it is ridiculous for somebody to get a criminal record that can follow them for life simply for smoking pot.
-Legalizing marijuana would cut off one of organized crime's most lucrative money sources.
-If marijuana was legal, the government could control the quality of what is being sold, making it safer.
-Medical advisories on marijuana packets would work the same way as on cigarettes. Right now, the government can't really run more than those assinine 'just say no campaigns'.
-It would actually be easier to ensure minors don't have access to the drug.
-In the Netherlands, they noted marijuana use actually DROPPED after legalization. The Netherlands' Minister of Health said a mouthful when he expressed it this way: 'We've actually managed to make pot boring to rebellious young people'.

I personally believe marijuana use is bad for your physical and mental health, but I don't believe in encroaching on a consenting adult's decision to smoke or not smoke the drug. I believe in a harm-reduction approach to drug control. I myself have not touched it in two years and have found myself more alert, emotionally stable, physically active, clear-minded, calmer and generally healthier.

The effects of marijuana are not more extreme than alcohol and is just as unhealthy as tobacco.

I'm fine with it being legalized under one condition:
They must create a breath-a-lyzer type test to stop driving under the influence.

Marijuana smoked is just as carcinogenic as cigarettes, however marijuana is more beneficial. I know numerous ppl who have it prescribed to them and would rather smoke it because prescribed pain killers give them way too many side effects.

Even though marijuana is a natural substance just like tobacco, it can still be harmful to the human body either physically or mentally. If not controlled it can lead to stronger drugs and most of the time it does.........

It should be legalized. Don't they have better things to do with the time and money than to bust pot smokers and distributors? Legalize it, tax it, and make it a business.

i'm ALL for it. alcohol is much more harmful and addictive, yet it's legal. same goes for cigarettes. plus, i believe people should be able to do as they please - so long as they're not infringing on the rights of others.
you'd think conservatives would be all for it since it could be taxed and put money in their pockets.

Definite NO. Not for the adults who need to discipline their habits, but for the youth. Easy access to unneccesary products diverts their focus from what will actually make them happy in the long run. Marijuana is nowehere in the list of those.
