Right p=2l+2w=162

the 2nd is:
l=3+2w
substitute:
162=2(3+2w)+2w
162=6+4w+2w
156=6w
w=26
l=3+2w=3+2*26=55
check:
162=2*55+2*26=110+52=162

eq.1 2L + 2W = 162 2L + 2W = 162
eq.2 L = 2W + 3 becomes L - 2W = 3

add the 2 equations, you'll have
3L = 165
divide both sides by 3,
L = 55
substitute the value of L in eq.1,
2(55) + 2W = 162
110 + 2W = 162
2W = 162-110
2W = 52
W = 26

answer: L=55, W=26

All right,

twice the width: 2W.
three more than twice the width: 2W + 3.
"The length is three more than twice the width": 2W + 3 = L.

Understand?

l=2w+3(3 more than twice the width)

2(L+W)=162
2(2w+3+w)=162
3w+3=81
3w=78
w=26

l=2(26)+3
l=52+3
l=55

w=26ft l=55ft
