no, it's not awkward. he went to medical school to practice in this specialty not to sneak a peek at women all day. be mature about it if you want to try going to a male doctor. if not, stick with a female.

I see a male gynecologist. I am a huge wimp (to put it politely,) and he takes as much time as I need to get things done. I really like him, and my mom and sister go to him as well.
I think making a good connection with your doctor, regardless of gender, is more important than worrying that a guy who you're not intimate with is going to be examining you. I guess the only cons are that he doesn't know from first hand experience what a menstrual cramp feels like or what it's like to be pregnant, but he's been practicing for awhile and he can empathize well. It's kind of nice though because he doesn't get caught up in the emotion of things and just gives you the facts.
But again, this probably varies from doctor to doctor and there are probably women out there who do this as well. But I don't mind having a male doctor and actually prefer him to women gynos I have seen.

I can't. I have when I was pregnant with my first, saw a couple of male OBs, because at the time I was on pregnancy medicaid and I had no choice; they told me what doctors to go to. They were very professional but I found it just too weird for me. I just don't like the idea of any man besides my husband peeking and poking around down there. lol

I had a male gyno for my first pregnancy.
He was very professional and I got good care.
I've never been queezy about my body though and he never gave me the creeps anyway.
But this time around I'm going to find a female gyno. I just want a little more connection.

i've seen both. Don't really notice a different bt men/women... but between individual doctors yes. Some have more time, others less-- some are rude some are polite. Ask a friend for a referral... that's usually the easiest way to find a decent M.D.

Normally, I do not get squemish with a guy gyno... I mean, it isn't like I've got anything special or different than he has been looking at all day... in fact, the guy gyno I used to go to was way more caring and gentle than the woman I go to now... but the last male gyno I had turned out to be a tad to "chatty" and I discovered he had been my bio lab partner in college... eeew... no need to tell you how uncomfortable that bit of news made me... I had a HUGE crush on him in college... (he had a very common name, so I didn't think anything about it when my doc had the same name...) So, now I go to my very functional, matter-of-fact, no chit-chat, woman gyno and I am okeedokee with that!!!

I have seen a male and female. A woman for the most part, can know what other women go through, however, I got more help and understanding from my male doctor. Had it not been for me, going to him for a second opinion, I could have died.
It is awkard but for me it is an awkward situation either way.

I have before. It's not awkward or anything if your doctor is professional about it, which most are. They always have a nurse in the room when they're examining you anyway. I prefer my new female doctor though, because she seems to understand my problems better. I don't know if it has anything to do with being a woman or not.

I had a male gyno the last time I had a checkup. I was not uncomfortable because I just thought how many of these he has seen throughout the course of a day so looking at mine must be very boring.

i would think that most are professional with another professional in the room. They look at women all day, i'm sure if they have years of experience, it doesn't mean anything to them and they are there to help you. If i were a women, i'd see only the best, even if it was a man.
