Believe it or not, I was you fifteen years ago around the same age.I too was lost with no hope in sight. One day I just left every thing at my rented apartment and never looked back. The only exception is I never attended college what so ever. Now, I am a district manager for a top insurance company making well over six figures. This is not what I planned on doing when I left, but it is what I ended up doing and I love it. Be patient my friend and it will find you. Good luck!

I'm not so sure that quitting is going to be your answer hon. If you are burnt out, take a break from it. I honestly believe this is something you wanted to do...it's just that the "getting there" part gets a little routine. Don't panic it happens to all of us at one point or another. If you are second guessing yourself, it may be time to set some time aside and do some soul searching. Take a three day hiatus with just you, your car and the open road. Make no plans, just go and figure it out while you are gone. Ask yourself what you like to do, name all your interests and then find a job that suits the criteria.
I, too, have been down your road. I changed my major about six or seven times. I knew I wanted to help people, but when I would go in one direction the reality of the downside to each job would set in and take over until I no longer found any joy in it. I had to find a job where my decisions would have an impact and still be able to help others. I became a social worker. It's not what I set out to do, but it's what I saw myself doing when I looked ten years down the road.

I'll be 34 the end of this month and I'm just starting to get there. No college degree for me, I quit school to have kids and am now a housewife. Now that my kids are in school I'm slowly starting to find myself. How do you do it? I have no idea. Finding myself was a series of events that led to me to where I am, and although I don't know myself fully yet, I'm a bit past where you are right now. But I have been there. I discovered mine quite by accident really, someone introduced me to something I wasn't even aware I could do, and now I'm exploring all the facets of it. So I don't know fully what I'll be ten years from now or even where this path leads me, but I know more about who I am now than I ever have. It's quite a liberating feeling.
I would say to take that unfilled desire and try new things to fulfill it. Do those little things you always said you wanted to do but never found the time. Something nagging at the back of your mind that you've always wanted to try or do but you always put it off? But no matter how many times you put it off the need for it always comes back? Do it. See a trend in your life, little things you're attracted to doing in your spare time? Find the thread that connects them.
Good luck!

You sound like the typical attention deficit disorder adult. Did you take medicine as a child and quit? Ritalin? Those are the characteristics of ADD or ADHD. Seriously. I taught school for l3 yrs. and I got worried that so many kids were on drugs for hyperactivity and lack of concentration and sticking to a task.
Look into it. Really. It will help you focus and finish things.
Then you might have time to figure out who you are and what makes you happy. You might be depressed because you don't complete daily jobs or accomplish anything successfully.

Don't worry. Maybe you're trying to hard to figure out what you want. Do something that interests you...not something that would make a good job, or satisfy anyone else. You sound like an extremelly intelligent person, you just don't have the direction or desire to put yourself into anything. Just relax and hopefully you'll find some inspiration or direction. Life isn't just about a job, it's about living your life.

Yes, you must get past the southern oracle and face your true self.
:)
Try joining the peace corp. If that doesn't do it for ya, nothing will.
Maybe it's scientific, a part of our brain that cannot allow us to be satisfied because the part of ourselves we need to "find" only comes with age and experience. The older I get the wiser I become. That is what I look forward to. I know that in 5 years, I will be more educated in all aspects. Life is a wonderful thing to have, don't piss it away worrying. Go with the flow before your too old to. Enjoy it.

I have some what found who I am such as knowing what I want to do, but it is just the fact of acting on my thoughts. Think about what you enjoy doing and could do day in and day out if you could for (relaxing not included) the rest of your life. Think about things that are constantly grasping your attention and act on them. Sometimes you can not just think about where the money is. And sometimes staying in school a very long time doesn't necessarily mean you can not earn good money. Think about something that accommodates to how you are as a person in general. See what your strengths are and what empowers you and gives you will.

Okay here's a scenario...if you had no money worries or ego worries or anything else in the world to worry about what would you do? A counselor asked me that question and I came up with the answer that I would volunteer at a hospital. Low and behold I got my doctorate while in the service and although i do not work in a hospital i work in hospital administration and its very fulfilling. Think it through, it may work for you! (Oh an I just turned 34!)

It took me until I was in my 40s to figure out what I wanted to do. I found out I hated office work, yet all my jobs were in an office. I am also imaginative and creative, where the workplace wants you to be dutiful and conformative.
I think life is about lessons and learning. I also think you learn more about life when you are struggling.
