They hold the glasses on more snugly. You wouldn't be able to wear them for an extended period of time as they are too tight and press the goggles so firmly into the eye sockets. But for the duration of a race they're okay. Ordinary goggle straps tend to loosen when you do flip turns, or when you're doing butterfly.

I normally use goggles with the straps during practice. I doesn't hurt, but it leaves a mark around my eyes. I've noticed that those goggles stay on a lot better. And they never come of during starts.

they are more tighter and firmer, that way water doesnt rush into the goggles. the better the goggles, the better you can see. in addition, regular goggles break easily.
