I want to purchase a new 'friend' for my comet goldfish. I'll more than likely buy another goldfish, but I was wondering if anybody has had any luck with other types of fish in the tank with their goldfish.

Goldfish are cold water fish. Stay with a goldfish, there are many varieties.

Technically you're not supposed to mix community/tropical fish with goldfish, because:
1. Goldfish put off a lot of ammonia
2. Goldfish are cool water fish
3. Just plain hogs and the other fish don't get to eat lol
If you keep up on the water changes good, you could try a dojo/weather loach. They prefer the cooler water also. More of a bottom dweller, neat looking fish though.

Koi similiar sizes, other fancy goldfish. any fish that are not tropical because comets likes their water on the slightly cold side.

not a good idea to keep goldfish with tropicals, too many differences, just get another goldfish

all i can say is do not get any tiny fish. we got a few neons and our goldfish ate them. poor little things. any other fish would do just fine with him. goldfish get along with most anything as far as i've seen.

No..Get goldfish only..They are not compatible with tropicals.

I never had any problem with them being territorial or anything. Just make sure that if you get one with flowing fins it gets enough food. They can't swim as fast as the comet variety and might miss out at feeding time.

I have heard that cory cats are compatible, and loaches. Individual temperments will vary though and I haven't tried it.
