bandanna is sumtin round and elastic and it came with no adjustment. both women n men wears it. whereas scarf is a piece of cloth that you can adjust and wear it anyhow you like. you can tie it to be a hairband, or a belt or simply wrap it around your neck as a fashion. the trendiest way to wear scarf is you fold it wide and wrap it around your waist like a belt. then put a skinny belt with matching colour over the scarf. voila! try it.

I guess I always associated bandannas with cowboys, who wore them around their necks or could pull them up over their noses if it was dusty--usually square and made of cotton and in a certain pattern in either red or blue. A bandanna can be wrapped around the head and tied in the back and used as a "dew (sp) rag." Women used to wear scarfs all the time to keep their hair from blowing around. Anyone can wear a scarf, usually made of a fabric like wool, around the neck or face in the winter for wind protection.Women wear scarfs around their necks or waists as an accessory. The difference: fabric, uses, cost.

A man wears a bandanna, women wear scarves.
Bandannas were originally made to cover the face to keep dust out and to wipe sweat. Scarves held down big hair on windy days.
