I used to work at the Herbalife offices (on the corporate end). I don't have any exact figures for you, but I can say that the success stories are true. There are lots of people who are organized, dedicated, and work very hard and they are handsomely rewarded. To reach the top levels of the business you need to eat sleep and live the business and have a sound plan going into it. One thing to be aware of if you are getting involved with the business is that there are a cross section of people who get involved with the business, and a proportionate number of them are absolute scoundrels. Many distributors tend to form marketing companies where they can pool their resources to generate leads, etc. Make absolute sure to research the individuals that you deal with AND the organizations they represent before you make any decisions. Take advantage of the BBB for some of that research. One thing to always keep in mind is that profit is made when the product reaches the customer and is consumed. Recruting new distributors is how you earn the big bucks, but only if the people below you are getting the products to customers. An organization of distributors that has a primary focus on getting the products in the hands of customers that need them and secondarily on recruting is the most sound and likely to be the most successful. Be wary when the focus is on recruiting and selling to customers is nearly non-existant, because that is not a sound situation to get involved with and odds are you will fail in the long run. Keep in mind that there is no refund policy for distributors (although if you become a distributor and resign you can sell your inventory back less a substantial restocking fee), so if you are serious try buying the products from a distributor at full retail, pay attention to how you are treated as a customer, then if you like the product and like the person you're dealing with then sign up as a distributor. If you don't like the product or the person you're dealing with ask for a refund (it's a 30 day money back gurantee), if it's not awarded by the distributor that you purchased from then go to corporate headquarters and provide your receipt/proof of payment and proof that you requested your refund within 30 days, because the corporation will stand behind the money back gurantee and take care of you.

Herbalife has been around for years, but so has any number of different businesses, so do not let that scare you.
Your success in ANYTHING will depend on the efforts you put forth to make it succeed. So, a solid business plan should be in place FIRST before you decide to market that ANYTHING!
Think success for your product first, and success for you will follow.

Herbalife fell from grace back in the 1980's when it was found that their natural products contained caffeine. Good Luck! :)
