I once saw professional house cleaners remove strong odors from a microwave oven by first scrubbing it with a baking soda & water mixture...rinsing, drying & then heating a bowl of distilled white vinegar mixed with water in the microwave.
Here are some online links that explain it:

To clean your microwave oven, put a microwave-safe bowl of 1/2 cup vinegar and 1 cup water in the oven, and cook long enough to boil. In addition to removing any lingering odors, this will loosen any baked-on food from the microwave's walls.

Clean the microwave by mixing 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar and 1/2 cup water in a microwave-safe bowl. Bring it to a rolling boil inside the microwave. Baked-on food will be loosened, and odors will disappear. Wipe clean.

Eliminate cooking odors by using 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to 1-cup of water. Boil white vinegar in water to eliminate unappealing odors left over from cooking.

Good luck with your microwave...Hope this works for you!

Take a whole lemon and slice it up like you're gonn make something pretty with it. Then you put a microwave safe bowl full of water and baking soda (6Tbsp.) Toss in the lemons and nuke till it boils! Then you stop the microwave and let it sit with the door closed until the water has time to cool off and the steam has done it's work. Just wipe down the inside with a paper towel when you're done, and this should do it. No more nasty smell, and a lemony fresh scent!!!

I use a cup of water with real lemon juice in it, place it in the microwave on HIGH.. and heat it to a boil .. let it boil down a bit .. then turn it off .. and let it sit in the microwave for about an hour. Then clean up as you normally would. It works! Good Luck! :)

I have used; 1 cup of vinegar with two cinnamon sticks and few cloves in a bowl, heated for five minutes to deodorize.
Should this fail I would suggest that you take a bag of brickettes and some newspapers and fill the microwave oven (line it with plain paper to avoid print marks) and let it sit for a few days to remove the odors.
Good luck!

put a cup of water with about a fouth cup of baking soda in the microwave and cook it on high for about 2 min. that should take care of it. plus, it makes it easy to clean the inside, just wipe it out after you boil the water in there, everything is loose and wipes right out.

If it's got grease in the vent, I'd be worried about a fire hazard. Just go out and buy a new one- you can get a decent one for around $40.
