I am wanting to buy a audio cable to hook my ipod up to my Phillips stereo. On the back of my stereo there is just options for white & red plugs. So, I am thinking I will just need the "Y" cable... but what's the yellow one for? Will I just plug this up & it will play on my speakers? Will I have to set my stereo up for this somehow?

You need a Y audio cable with the following specifications:
1/4" Stereo Jack connector on one end, and two RCA Male connectors on the other ends.

Connect the two RCA ends from the back of the stereo, then turn on the stereo and choose Auxiliary.
The sound should play.

Yellow is for video, red and white are for right and left audio channels. You should set your stereo to Auxillary and plug in your Y cable. turn the ipod on and it should work. turn the volume mid way on the ipod and then adjust the stereo to your liking.

Use a Y one. The three ends is an audio-video cable. Left speaker (Red), Right speaker (White), and video (Yellow)
