It's two miles, the Talbott is a really, really nice hotel
With luggage you are not going to want to wait for and transfer on three buses.
The Amtrak ticket counter is located on the ground level between the concourses. Taxis can be found at the cab stand on the western edge of the north concourse, but during rush hour you'll have to wait your turn in a fast-moving line. There are also Cabs at the South entrance on Jackson but those doors are normally more crowded.
Mike Ditka's Restaurant is in The Tremont one street south of The Talbott, short walk, not even a block. Upstairs in The Cigar Lounge the live entertainment is Frank Sinatra sound-alike John Vincent, Tuesday - Thursday 8pm - Midnight, Friday & Saturday 9pm - 1am, three samples of his singing at the link, Mike Ditka formed Ditka Records to produce a CD of him with a 48-piece orchestra, and the King Tut exhibit is at The Field Museum thru January, if you like that sort of stuff

It's 2 miles. I would suggest taking a bus, it's much cheaper than paying for a taxi, and there's tons of bus options at Union Station. Enjoy the city, it's fantastic!
