I was in a relationship and that started to fall apart. I made the mistake one to sleep with someone else and never said anything. 9 months later my son was born. A DNA test was done on my man I was having a relationship with, then the test came back not his. I'm affraid that is the man that I have the one time with. But I just found out that he is in prison for 7-10 years. How can I get ahold of him to talk to him about it? Or how would I go about getting a DNA test done without him knowing what it is about?

Ask yourself this, DO YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW FOR SURE? The way it sounds it was a 50/50 shot and the 50 you were hoping for was not so unless there are others he's the one.

My own opinion here, but I wouldn't bother with him. If you don't need him for anything and obviously he wouldn't be a good role model then why even find out. Leave it as father unknown for you and the child and never let this guy find out that there was a possibility that it's his. If in the future your son wants to know who the father is you can find him and do a DNA test but don't go 16 years and expect past due child support. If he finds out about he might try coming around when he gets out of jail and it might not be a good thing if he hasn't bettered himself.

Legally, you can't get a DNA sample without informing the person what it's for. If you get the DNA sample and it's his you will have to either get him to sign over his rights to be the father and if he wont you will have to go through the court system and I'm not sure how the law works there.

Definately think fully into every possible aspect of this before you do anything and I wish you the best of luck.

AND OMG people aren't some of you judgmental? We don't know what the guy is in prison for. Just because he is in prison doesn't mean he's violent and crazy. Yes, criminals aren't good, but I'm sure EVERY one of you have broken the law even if it was minor! Criminals live everywhere and anywhere and sometimes we don't even know they're criminals because they are what you people stereotype them to be.
AND to the jerk below me........ just because the father is a criminal doesn't mean that she's going to raise her child terribly. Many kids come out of bad circumstances and grow up just fine.

Don't let these jerks bother you girl but please do whats best for your child. If that means you don't find out who the daddy is then so be it. You and the child deserve a great life.

If you had a bunch of money you can pay a lawyer $10,000 and he can get a court order to get a DNA test for this.
However, I don't know the point. This guy has no money and I can tell will not be in the mood to be a father when he gets out.
Even if he is, he will not be comitted to the relationship or even work on being a father.
I'll bet you were eager to strip off all your cloths and jump in bed with this man because he was a violnet jerk that treated you like garbage. Didn't you even once think of the awful life that child is going to have because an orgasm was more important to you than doing what is best for your children?

What could you possibly say to the man in prison. You can have him terminate parental rights, meaning he 'divorces' the child, has no more right to him. Can't ask for child support because he might be making all of 11 cents an hour behind bars, if anything. If you want a future relationship with him, you're bringing a convicted felong into your son's life, and your own. I don't see the win here.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO?

I mean... think about it... Do you want this fling into your life? In your son's life? You don't get welfare anymore if daddy is in jail, you know.

********

A prisoner's location is a simple thing to find out, if you know what prison system he is in (ie, State of Michigan, Feds, etc). Just call the state's Dept of Corrections and ask.

Get a lawyer. You're gonna need one. Your lawyer will certainly be able to compell a DNA test.

i dont think you could get a dna test without him knowing..Go to the prison and visit him face to face..i think it would be better that way then a phone call or a letter..Tell him what happened and then go to the court and i guess issue a dna test to be done...good luck..and honesty is the best policy

What would be worse no father or a convicted felon still in jail? Do you really want this person to have legal rights to you kid, if not dont to the test and keep your mouth shut, you just say I'm not sure who the daddy is.

Why would you even want to? Get over your own mistake, don't bother looking for your baby's daddy, it's not like he's going to pay you child support anyways!
