It depends on your your tastes and interests. There are places list above by others that do not interest me, but they may interest you. I could list some yhat other would have no interest in.

You'll find links to photos of a big city, a beach town, a colonial city and archeological site. Those are four very diferent kinds of places. Which kind of place appeals to you.

Not to expensive depends on the hotel you choose more so than the location.

Another thing is that right after vacation, the coast of Mexico will be very hot and humid. If that doesn't other you and relaxing on a beach is what you have in mind then the west coast of Mexico from Mazatlan to Huatulco or the Caribbean coast from Cancun south have the best beaches.

The colonial cities in the center offer not only cooler weather, but also old Mexico charm that cannot found on the coast.

On the coast smaller towns a can be found including these a little north of Puerto Vallarta.

Inland, Guanajuato a lively small (around 70,000) university city and nearby (1.5 to 2 hours by bus) San Miguel de Allende could be combined for a fine stay. You can find places from $10 hostels on up to rooms that are $200+ a night. Photos of Guanajuato can be found at the larpman link above.

It depends on what side of Mexico you're looking to go to. Are you looking towards the Caribbean side? If so, Cozumel is popular. If it's the Pacific/West Coast side, Cabo San Lucas is nice, very popular. But then again, there's also La Paz. Do you want a clothing optional resort, a resort where you can "resort hop" in other words visit and play at their sister resorts, are you looking for all-inclusive, adults-only?

It really does depend on what you want as far as your vacation goes.

10/04/06: Another person suggested you take a cruise because all food & drinks are included. Not all drinks are included. Alcoholic drinks are not included in the price of your cruise, nor are sodas (Coke, Pepsi, 7-Up, Ginger Ale, etc.). The drinks that are included in your cruise price is coffee, tea, milk, lemonade, ice tea. If you do not in the main dining room and decide to go to a "specialty" restaurant on the cruise you will be paying for this meal as it is not included in your cruise price. Just wanted to let you know so you are't surprised if you happen to decide to take a cruise to any destination. Happy travelling!

My boyfriend and I went to Mayan Riviera. We stayed at a hotel called El-Mandarin, it was really nice and its beachfront too. Its only 15 mins. from a little town called Playa Del Carmen(shopping and resteraunts) and 30 mins from Cancun (shopping and good nightlife) Thats if you want some place that is relaxing and provides the best of all worlds. If you guys want a place with lots of young people and travellers go to Cancun..party central. Have fun.

Hi,
Not expensive you can go to Acapulco is so fun and beautiful. I think with the exchange rate you can go to Cancun with out problems with money.
You can check this link. In Cozumel you can take a rest and is very close, Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Tulum etc.
