The truth is that was on TV this week in the news. I think they said the Amazon and it was called the "food of the gods".

The Cocoa bean is native to the America's... Columbus and company brought it back to Spain with them. The Spanish aristocracy decided it was an aphrodisiac and kept it to themselves... Clearly, it didn't last. They started adding milk and sugar to it, and eventually the commoners got hold of it....

Thank God for Hershey's! (and Mars... and Godiva!... and...)
