it really depends on the type of skin you have. I used proactiv durin january for 2 months and those two months wre the worst days of my life. My face broke out more than before i used it ..it was scary....those pimples were like little bubbles. If u have dry skin, i prefer u not to sue it because it's goin to giv u more acne due to more oil released to giv the skin moisture. But u can always try for a month.

p.s...u always see good results the day after you used it, same for me but it went downhill afterwards...

Is Proactive Safe

It's just benzoyl peroxide, which is a proved and safe active ingredient for fighting acne. Proactive is an overpriced and hyped product. All you got to do is find a benzoyl peroxide product from your local drug store that works for you. I think, and most dermatologists agree, that the Neutrogena, Almay, Olay, etc. products with BP work just as well, if not better than the pricey Proactive. Check out an excellent article about all this stuff in the NY Times a week or so ago.

No, it wouldn't be wise to use Proactiv if you're going to tan. Proactiv contains Benzoyl Peroxide (10% I believe), and BP is a drying agent. Given its drying properties, it will cause your skin to become dry and red, and tanning will most likely have adverse effects --- nothing major, but your skin will probably break out more, and your skin will heal a lot slower as a result. Not to mention, the tan will probably come out bad. And no, Proactiv isn't "designed" to be used during the day, as a previous poster stated. It's designed to be used at night. How can a three-step system be designed to be used before going into the sun? Benzoyl Peroxide is far too strong for that.

It should be. A lot of people I know have used proactive and it's safe-it also helped their face too. It takes work and effort to do the routine but it's worth it...or so I'm told.

Some people have told me that it just makes their face dry.

It should be safe if you aren't allergic to any of the ingredients. Also, be careful, I know several people that ended up with bleached towels and pillowcases while using facewashes and medications with benzoyl peroxide. If you have really sensitive skin, I would go to the drugstore and buy a cheaper product containing benzoyl peroxide and make sure your skin can tolerate it before you spend your money on Proactive.

I have a sensitive skin but Proactiv didn't agitate my skin.
It took care of the acne without peeling or redness(Trust me. I've tried all kinds of products before using Proactiv). It's gentle on your skin. Try it. I loved it.

If you just want it for prom, consider spray tanning, you get more even colors. Proactive is designed to be used during the day, so I'm sure it'll be fine, but because it's designed to be used during the day, your face may end up lighter than the rest of your body.
