Get window defender and Run the anti-spyware and also use it to shutdown start-up program that use up most of your Random access Memory (RAM) This will give you a big differents- also you should at least have 512MB if you are running Window XP SP2. By the way Zone Alarm and CA EZ Firewall are the same except for the name....

You can't have two anti-virus programs running at the same time. You have to chose one or the other. If norton anti-virus is your choice, you should go to application recovery and reinstall it from your recovery disk.
You should go to google or another good search engine and search for specific problems that you're having. I've listed a few links below which might help.

Start -> Run, type msconfig.
Go over to the STARTUP tab and uncheck things that don't look familiar. Don't uncheck more than 2 or 3 things at a time, and write down what you uncheck in case your system starts getting flaky. Don't uncheck your antivirus, firewall, or anything else that's system critical.

it could be you mobo has over heated
i have a system that takes half an hour to boot because the mobo has heat damage
so dont dismiss all together
