if the gfi is working properly then you may have an "open circuit"..

the first place id look for the open is on the back of the gfi recepticle.. the screw terminals may be lose.. you need to insure that both the black and white wires are tight..

When a GFI switch does not work, it must be replaced.

Probably a voltage surge damaged it.
