Interesting racial perspective, but I was kind of wondering what is up with our school systems? Why aren't doors secured during school hours? Why is it that anyone can just walk right in to a building and not be questioned. Why are we negotiating hostage situations against these fools.. oh, I've got more, and I hear your concern.. it's baffling,, Twenty year old grudge, but is that justification, I doubt it,, just another sicko using an outlet which was publicized in the media, therefore encourages another to use the same forum for violence. I'm concerned for school safety more, the children, and think some school safety officers/ officers need to be utilized more. However, every time I've seen that argument of arming police officers for school patrolling, most communities crack a whip and are objectionable about it..
Too bad it continues, and things have to escalate, to have anyone do a darn thing about it,, Wacko's out there, and diligence is necessary. This issue shows a direct parallel between school punishment, behavioral issues, a school districts ability to enforce punishment against bullying, and the disregard and parental rights by individuals..it's not even funny, but most schools are tied on this one..how to at least counter this,, so now it branches off to civil/criminal concerns.
I'm saving for a private school as we speak, I have no faith in the school systems in protecting my child. .. it's nutz

It's not necessarily a racial thing, or haven't you heard of drive-by shootings happening daily in some parts of the country? This is a sad, sad incident.
Our schools need more protection. I'm not saying lock the kids in, but lock out the psychos who could just wander in. Yes, there are sick, sick people out there who need help and this is just another example of this. But if you want to look at it from a racial perspective here goes Durkhiem's theory of suicide (applied to murder) white males make up the majority of the population, yet have the least social connections, thus they are inclined to be alone and could take their aggression out on others. (It's a theory, not fact) That's the soc answer to this question. (There are a lot of other answers, but I don't have them.)
And here's a reply to the gun-man. Guns are not toys, they shouldn't be treated as such. They are designed for killing, if they weren't people/animals wouldn't end up dead. Gun safety should be taught, guns should be respected as a weapon. In the military you have to clean, disasemble and reasemble your weapon before you're even allowed to fire it. I'd like to see a similar take on cilvilian gun ownership.

don't know if it is a genetic thing that white raced people have been the shooters, but whatever it is, it is sickening.....We only hear the Headline News, we don't hear all the other murders all over the country that are happening while we are safe in our homes on Q&A.....I don't remember hearing about this kind of stuff when I was a kid either, but media is transglobal now via instant everything, sattelites etc....maybe things did occur, but I don't think on the level it is today.....School shootings I don't believe I have heard of till this day and age, Meth labs and such, things have gotten way out of hand...The guy who killed those girls was a coward and a parasite on this planet...I feel so bad for their parents, and the community, because the Amish are tight nit, and I will bet all knew those kids....We have Amish here in Tennessee, you should see those farms and what they build, outstanding....they don't bother a soul....tragic, sad.....

Problems like this have been going on for a long time. It is reported more often that it used to be. In the past, insane people would be "put away" and provided with treatment. Funding for those programs and facilities have been cut. So unless you happen to be crazy and from a rich family, you pretty much are on your own to deal with it. Some people can deal and some can't.

Think of the low percentages involved and how the media chooses to focus on certain cases that will attract attention. I think that there are plenty of black kids killed, abducted and brutalized and they are not mentioned unless the media has a thing at that moment for guns, gangs and drive-bys.
The news media used to be a non-profit making public service, but it became a money generating profit center, so they tell you what they think will be most profitable—that's what's wrong.

we were just discussing this phenomenon - i mean white boys or men going berko in some school, holding kids hostage or executing them! I mean, Columbine was two white teenage boys with a grudge... It's something social scientists, psycologists and governmnt ought to really look into. I am not saying at all that white people are becoming bad... I mean, something is happening to middle-calss white america that is breeding this horrid social disease!

Those who use guns that way were taught that by the anti-gun movement.
I grew up in the 50's. We kids had guns from age 12 up. We bought ammunition without notes from our parents. We bought and sold guns the same.
We were taught that guns were for fun. For fun hunting; for fun shooting at targets.
We knew you could kill people with a gun. If someone attacked our mom's or sisters, we certainly were going to use our guns to stop them.
But, we thought of guns as being for fun. If we were out in the woods with our guns, and got mad at each other, we would carefully prop our guns in a safe place, and try to beat the crap out of each other.
For several decades, the journalists and anti-gun activists have been teaching our kids that guns exist only for killing people. DON'T TRY TO TELL ME THEY HAVEN'T, BECAUSE YOU HAVE HEARD THIS YOURSELF!
So, then when you have young people who actually believe that guns are for killing people, you whine, how can this be?????????
***
The second problem we have is we are stupid, once again the anti-gunners are still in charge with the expected disastrous results.
It is usually a crime to carry a gun in a public school, even for adult teachers with a carry permit from the state.
So, we first teach people guns are for killing people, then we put a bunch of kids in a place where it is known there are no guns for self-defense. DOH!!!!
We need to have as many teachers as are willing to really learn how to handle and shoot guns, get permits and carry them in the classroom.
When you well know you have a safety problem, and we have had school shootings for well over a decade now, intelligent people take action to deal with that problem. And, I do not mean expelling a little boy who draws a picture of his uncle who is a soldier in Iraq with his guns. Enough of this total stupidity.
Instead of continuing to whine about getting rid of guns, that they only exist for killing people, then trapping millions of school kids in large buildings with no self-defense, it is time to let disturbed people know it ain't safe to attack a school.
Think about this. All over the United States, thousands of people atttend gun shows. Have you ever heard of a crazy shooting up a gun show? H**L no, because they know those gun owners are armed to the teeth.
Did you know in Israel, the teachers are military trained, and have M-16s and ammo in the schools? There is the answer, and as long as we let stupid people run our society, we are going to continue to have such tragedies.

There are too many insane people running around loose. Now they medicate them instead of locking them up. It doesn't work.
