how can i get it to recognise a refilled cartridge as a new one?
is it even possible? its a epson stylus CX3810

Epson might be preparatory. Does the ink wells have a electronic chip small about the size of a dime and covered with a plastic clear dome on them? Then it is possible they have a memory on them and if you don't reset this memory it won't recognize the filled ink, in most cases ink-jets the memory can't be reset. This only means that you will need to buy Epson replacements only. Epson printers are far advance on the market and they make sure that their products operate at best performance with their products.

Not all printer cartridges are refillable. Some things to check is that the head is clean. Most printers have a cleaning step.
