It is a horrible tragedy. Why are some people so violent and cruel? I cannot begin to imagine how the peaceful Amish community will be able to recover from this tragedy. It is most devastating that not only will they have to deal with the grief of losing a child, but also there will be fear that something else might happen. How can the adults resolve their grief and anger? How can the children resolve their fear.

Charles Carl Roberts IV was 32. If an incident occurred 20 years ago he would have been 12 years old. He let the boys go free and the pregnant women or those with infants. So I speculated that maybe he was rejected by a girl when he was 12 but reports say that he had molested children at that time and dreamed of doing it again. In addition, he was angry at God because his daughter had died.

Who can understand what drove him to do what he did? Who can understand a pervert's mind?

When people do a senseless act of killing, be it one victim or 3000, we are stumped. Why would someone behave in this way? I don't think we have ready made answer.

Maybe the whole of society is at fault. We are moving too fast and not caring for the ones who are in trouble and a real time bomb waiting to create mayhem.

I saw the photos of the Amish folks on yahoo after the shootings.
They show grief, disbelief but strangely acceptance! Does that sound strange?

I live about 15 miles from this horrible thing that happened to those poor little girls today. I don't think anyone will ever know why he did it, he took that answer when he shot himself. I just feel for all parties involved, especially his wife with 3 small children who had no clue this was coming, not to mention the Amish families who have lost their daughters.

i think we'll find he had a thing for one or more of these girls, they look all psuedo-gothic/hippie-like, he probably thought they were hot. but they are specifically restricted from associating with weird psychos so they rejected him. he went off.

this is a sad time for the schools this last couple weeks. oh hell, this whole year has been sad for the young folk, the myspace krap, the seattle rave thing, the list goes on....

another senseless act of gun violence in a country determined to retain archaic gun laws.

Sad to say it will likely happen again and again until the law changes and guns are outlawed.
