I totally disagree, and I think your parents really don't feel that way either. I suspect they're thinking more along the lines of not WANTING you to be friends with guys. I'm sure they are just looking out for what they feel is your best interest. Even though you know you won't be doing anything with these guys, they don't want to take the chance that something could develop. With all of the instances of teen pregnancy nowadays their line of thought is understandable, although not completely rational. I can see how you would be confused, but give your parents a little credit....it's hard raising teenage girls. By the time you're into your 20's...you'll see that your parents knew a whole lot more than you thought they did.

My parents always felt the same way and when I left home they finally told me that it wasn't that they didn't think males and females could be friends but they were more concerned about what a male and female friend might do out of curiousity and boredom. One of my best friends in school was a guy and to this day 18 years after graduation we are still best friends and our families get together frequently and our kids have grown up together. The best thing to do is just ask your parents why they feel this way as I am sure they have a reason for it.

I'm sorry to say this, but I think your parents are wrong. Every girl needs a guy friend...I call my guy friends my "big brothers" since I don't have any brothers. Sometimes hanging out with the guys is better for you, I knew it was for me. High school is full of drama and most of the time its the girls that start it...guys tend to stay away from drama which was the safetest route to take!

That is fine. I had more guy friends than girls when I was in high school because girls are so messy and keep up drama. As long as you keep on friend levels with them that is cool. They are just being protective because they are your parents and don't want you to get in any trouble.

Girl, I met my best friend in High School...We used to stay up all night talking on the porch (we were neighbors). I told him about the boys I liked he told me about the girls he liked...and never do we spill eacothers secrets, never!!! Never had to worry about him stealing my boyfriend veice-versa. We went to movies, doubble dated, ate dinner and never fought because we are soooo cool like that!!! We live 2 hours away from eachother, each with our partners, very happy and I still call him at 1am..."hey punk, listen, I can't sleep so now you can't sleep either." Look I love my Friend, you follow your heart, don't let anyone tell you, you should do this or that, you pick your friends...

I disagree with your parents. Now, i have heard people say, you can't be friends with the opposite sex, without people thinking you're sleeping together. I have alot of male friends now, like i did in high school, there's nothing wrong with it. To be honest with you, I think they are better friends.

I think they are wrong. There isn't anything wrong with being friends with guys. The more friends the better, right? No matter whether they are guys or girls.

MMM.. yeah..it is perfectly normal to be friends with a guy in highschool. That's the only way you're gonna learn how to take care of yourself in college.

tell your folks to come out of the dark ages. i have always found men make better friends. women are just to darn needy. i have raised both a daughter and son (on my own) also have 7 step children, now a grandma. i have always encouraged the children to have as many friends as possible whether male or female. your parents are being dumb. a good male friend will help you make better decisions re: dating and sex. they will be honest with you about whether a boy is being honest or just wants some. tell your parents to grow up.

I had quite a few male friends in high school. One of them is still one of my best friends today and I'm now 31. They make good friends because there's none of that b-tc-y competitveness like there often is between girlfriends. I used to advise him re his girlfriends and he was protective of me with boys. Our relationship was always and is still strictly platonic.
