They don't; it's a common fallacy, unsupported by evidence. When people do crazy things and it's not a full moon, we tend to forget about it. When it's a full moon and nothing crazy happens, we tend to forget about it. On the rare occasions when something crazy coincides with a full moon, people tend to remember it and think it proves a connection between the two that simply does not exist. Check your city's crime statistics versus a calendar sometime, and I am absolutely certain that you will see the falsity of your assumption. In fact, some crimes and behavior actually decrease during the full moon, because of the relatively bright nights, which make it harder to do things without being seen.

One theory I have heard is that because the human body is made up of something like 70 - 90% water (clarification from other answerer's would be great on that one) and the moon controls the tide, that the full moon can therefore have an effect on the body and mood. I don't buy it, personally. But I haven't noticed people going cuckoo around the full moon, so I really don't know.

"Seem" is the operative word here.
They don't go more crazy during full moon. Numerous studies have shown there aren't more hospital admissions during full moon, there aren't more fires or paramedic runs, there isn't more crime -- yet many nurses, firefighters, and police officers still claim there is more during a full moon. They're wrong :)

even though a lunar eclipse does occur during this time (lunar = lunatic, the prefix luna is latin for crazy), this is probably not true. back in the olden days, when people had no eletricty, they would sometimes sleep outdoors, and the light from the moon would shine so bright on them, that they would go completly mad. that's what i saw on Dr.Know
