I had a baby 2 months ago (normal vaginal birth) and when I went for my 6 week visit I had a pap smear done. My gyn informed me that he found abnormal cells and now wants to do a colposcopy. I am nervous it might be cancer. Is it normal to have an abnormal pap after giving birth? Also is a colposcopy painful?? I am nervous.

Sweetie,

It's not normal to have abnormal cells at any time, and has very little to do with you're having had a baby.

Cervical cancer can strike without warning, and is one disease that tends to be overlooked by many women. Tell your doctor THANK YOU for finding it, even if it leads to nothing.

A colposcopy doesn't hurt, and lasts about 3 minutes. At the MOST, you will feel about the same pressure you do when they are scraping cells for a Pap Smear (to me, that tickles).

Don't get yourself wired up, ok? You have a sweet little baby to take care of. Just make sure you follow through, and soon.

I am no doctor, but I would ask for a follow-up pap. My doctor would never dream of doing a pap that soon after delivery. I was told to wait for some time afterward.

it rather is a threat because of the fact it surpassed off to me. circulate back and function yet another pap achieved and notice what the outcomes are once you have the 2nd achieved. If it seems ordinary then you definately would desire to ask your well-known practitioner some very direct questions.
