An improper fraction would have a larger number over a smaller number:

ie. 34/12 or 5/3

An improper fraction has a larger numerator, the denominator. Therefore, the top number is larger than the bottom. Usually, fractions have a smaller numerator, then the denominator.

For example, 5/4 or 12/5
