In the UK till 1970, when it was replaced by the fifty pence piece, though the rest of our currency was not decimalised until 1971. It was generally known as a 'ten bob note', hence the phrase 'as bent as a nine bob note' meaning something is fraudulent or bogus.

Sure was ---- in Australia --- till 1966,when decimal currency was introduced.
