FALSE
Minerals don't make a copy of the organism, they replace the organisms structure.
Making a copy would mean that the original organism is still there.
EDIT
Oobily Ghepp
MOST fossils were produced in water, not dry land.
They needed the settling of sediments on the bones to be formed.
Whether that water was the sea, rivers, or land animals caught up in floods doesn't matter but any bones left on dry land, as you state is the way fossils were formed, would have been ripped apart by carrion eaters and have decomposed before they had a chance to fossilise.
Just about the only way fossils could be formed on dry land would be for animals/plants/eggs etc to be covered in volcanic ash.
Also, what is dry land now wasn't necessarily dry land back in the age of the dinosaurs

False. the organism needs to be buried in earth, not water. Water would wash away the substances not allowing anything to form. We all know that fossilized dinosaur bones were found at digs on dry land.

True...thats what a fossil basically is. Petrified minerals. Once the organism dies and the minerals attach to it, it starts to harden and after many years becomes petrified. Hope that helps.

Minerals don't make a copy of the organism...they replace the organisms structure over a long, long period of time.
