You could, but that would probably cost as much as getting an External drive, all ready to go. A computer place would work for FREE? Visit http://www.newegg.com and use the search tool for EXTERNAL DRIVE and you will see.

I recently bought this Western Digital USB drive with 400GB for about $220. You can get a smaller one for about $120.

The external HD is an internal one with 'life support' so it can get power and data externally. There's no problem in freeing it for it's case and installing it onside your PC.

yes, you may ask for a 2.5" USB enclosure or a 3.5" USB enclosure depending on the Internal Hard drive you hv. If you remove the internal hard drive from a desktop PC, it is a 3.5" type and if you removed it from a Notebook PC, it is a 2.5" type

you can do it yourself, just buy a hard drive enclosure, remove the internal hard drive from the machine then fit it into the enclosure, plug it in and voila - the internal hard drive becomes an external hard drive :)

the respond is esentially if its a USB exterior stress you will discover it is superb suitable to storage and archives flow. eSata is largely an inner stress as far because of the fact the mobo knows. the difficulty this is the way the storage communicates with the processor and the Chipset on the Mobo. inner oriented drives have an more desirable precedence speedier bus conenction to the processor and centers like direct memory get entry to to velocity up flow and operability. USB gadgets are on a greater peripheral oriented set of interrupt requests. eSata actually provides the superb of the two worlds yet its basically basically out of its infancy somewhat so its nonetheless a sprint expensive and quirky.

Just buy a harddrive enclosure. You can find those in most computer store. Make sure you buy the right harddrive interface like IDE or SATA. And also right interface to your computer, USB or fireware.
