So i had a tonne of dirt delivered to them while they were at work. Is this wrong?

unfortunately it is. I know its sweet revenge, but your blessed with a kind heart. If your questioning the fact - if its right or wrong that means you know its wrong. now what are you going to do about it should be your next queestion?! Unless you can live with it

Probably. You didn't do yourself any favors in the "rise above it" category. The only thing you did was stoop to their level. However, if you are going to do it, then do it like you did and do it BIG!!! LOL!!!
