I'm 7 weeks pregnant. All I have wanted lately is tuna salad on whole wheat toast. I have eaten it a few times but I don't know if canned or pouched tuna will hurt my babe. Anyone have any advice? If it isn't good for my baby I won't eat it, but I will need some adivce on how to stop craving it. LOL!

My doctor limited me to one or two tins of tuna a week. I think it has something to do with the mercury levels in big fish.

First off congratulations on the upcoming birth of your child. Secondly, I agree, stop eating the tuna. The mercury is NO good for either of you.
How to stop the craving huh? Not easy. Try cooking pork and pulling it apar to get that same texture as tuna, then mix it as you would tuna salad. You could also try that chicken salad in a can stuff, or make homemade chicken salad and put that on your whole wheat toast.
Good Luck.

Besides myself, you are the only person I've heard of that craves tuna. I craved tuna for breakfast, lunch and dinner when I was pregnant. Tuna does have a high amount of mercury and can actually cause mercury poisoning. Check with your OB to see what amounts are safe for your baby.

Back off on the tuna. The mercury in it can harm your baby's development. If it were I, I would not touch it at all during pregnancy. Try chicken salad instead.

As long as you don't eat it for every meal, you should be ok! Talk to your doc to see how much is too much. We crave strange things when pregnant. With my three kids, I had different craves for each one. Plain cornflakes and homemade salsa with the first. Toasted almonds with the second, and mexican food with the third. They say that you crave things because your body needs the nutrients in the foods that you crave. Maybe you need more protein.

Ooo..check with your doc. Fish can have high amounts of Mercury (though Tuna is normally low). Even low amounts can add up if you eat too much of it. Keep a weekly diary of what you eat and show it to your doctor. Congrats on expecting!!
