Ironic is it not?

When you ask a question - and then qualify it with your opinion - it makes it near impossible to answer it within the confines of your disclaimer.

When you imply our democracy "doesn't even work", you need to give examples, because I personally believe it works just fine.

Always remember, in a democracy, the people always get the government they deserve.

This is especially true when the people don't vote.

In answer to your question, I think it is every free nation's responsibility to try and spread democracy throughout the world.

Ever since GW BUSH made the speech for bringing democracy in the middle east.He created enemies in all 22 Arab countries.Although he was telling lies. {Democracy is not an agenda in US foreign policy}. But it united all Sunni Arabs on the street, clergy and the Rulers against the United States in Iraq. Most of the insurgents are from Jordan and Saudi Arabia and are secretly financed by their Governments. Now he is beating around the bush in Iraq under the false slogans of freedom, war on terror, and Democracy. You are right First bring true democracy at home others will follow automatically.

I think ours works. Every election, the winners take office and no blood gets shed. This is only true in a democracy...

The reason for spreading democracy is that democratic governments tend to become our allies, tend to value civil rights for its citizenry, and tend to stem the tide of violence around them...

Funny. we are among the best educated people in the world, yet we vote with knee jerk reaction. That is what is wrong with this democracy; people don't care enough to be informed before they vote, or don't bother to vote.

As far as democracy building, our old foreign policy was to support any oppressive dictator who would kill his own people, as long as he (never she) was not a communist or elected socialist, (which was the case in Chile & Nicaragua.)) Somehow it seems like an improvement to me.

By the way, our democratic country supported Saddam enough to keep him in power. I would think it was our job to remove him. Maybe I am wrong? History will tell, depending on which version of it you believe.

Too true, your average American would`nt know democracy if it stood up in their soup and spat it in their faces. Talk about being had. Then you have Bush trying to contaminate the rest of the world with his putrid poison. They look at the American democratic model and think " F*ck that, i`d rather be dead"

Ever since spreading democracy became code for a neo-con strategy to expand the empire of the US and invade and control key countries.

If the countries aren't democratic, but the neo-cons don't want their resources yet or don't want to control them yet, then they are ok for now.

Good question, but democracy does work here. Other wise we would have a dictator and we would have no freedoms, you could be arrested for this question in other countries...I think it is working fine, don't you now that you think about it?

I wonder how many countries have you lived or visited. True, is no such a thing as a perfect social or political system, but believe me , we are way ahead of everyone else.
There are countries in Europe thinking that they have freedom for everything, but actually
what they are is nothing but a very corrupt society.

It isn't about democracy its about power and money.. they are trying to turn the world into one big marketplace but to stop the ordinary people from getting angry the rename "colinization" to "democracy"
