There are many ways to sound proof a room, including some mentioned before. Your particular situation is a bit different in that it a loft. Being somewhat open to fully open to the lower level makes sound attenuation a more daunting task. You not only need to deaden the acoustic levels in the walls, floor, and ceiling of the loft, but also those bouncing up to the loft from the lower area. I would recommend looking for a sound attenuation specialist to give you some ideas and an estimate on the project. Hope you find what you are looking for. Just be prepared for the costs.

Going to a home store such as Lowe's or Home Depot and asking their advice is your best bet. If the room is not carpeted then carpet will help a lot with keeping the noise down. I know there is some type of sound proofing to put on the walls but that is where the home store will help you choose the best way.

If it isn't a log home, you can blow insulation in the floors and walls. That should cut the sound back considerably. If it is not quiet enough, then you will need to look into sound deadening panels. Much like a sound studio.

The best way would be to install insulation in the ceiling and or floor. You could possibly use a suspended ceiling with a sound Bat insulation.

there's a foam that is injected into the air space ,it hardens to a plastic (much like the shipping peanuts) your contractor, will drill some holes after they locate all the structural crevices and the inject it with this substance ! (i understand it's a moderate cost and very effective for sound-proofing . ask at your local hardware store for a list or reference to these contractors (BE SURE THEY ARE LICENSED AND BONDED !! )
