That depends on your view of reality. If you have an objective view, that reality exists “out there”, independent of us, then the tree does make a sound. Independent of us the tree has a certain mass and falls at a certain rate which creates a certain force. Independent of us the tree hitting the surrounding foliage and eventually the ground with this force is converted to energy, some of which is sonic, some of which lies within the human audible range. If you have a subjective view of reality, that reality exists only by virtue of our perception of it, indeed, our perception is all there is of reality, then by virtue of there being no perceiver, there is no reality, more specifically no sound.

Yeah because it's common sense that when a tree hits the floor, it's gonna make a sound regardless of the circumstances. Do you honestly think it's like not gonna make a noise just because no one is around to hear it?

yes of course it does! If the tree is on this green earth (even if no one hears it) it can make a sound! We just don't know it.

no, in order for at to have a "sound" there must be someone hearing it, the true question is if a man says something and a woman isn't around to hear it is he still wrong?
