peace lily plant,

Quite often buyers of a Betta Fish Vase have been mistakenly told that the Betta can live by eating the lily roots, but the Betta should be fed floating food that is labeled for Betta Fish and freeze dried blood worms, which are actually mosquito larvae. Click here for more information about feeding fish.

Betta Fish usually do much better in a large Fish Bowl than in a Vase. Click here for information about Fish Bowls and keeping fish in fish in a Fish Bowl.

It's a myth.
Betta's are meat eaters. They starve to death eating plants. If you want a betta vase, first reconsider. There are many small aquariums that will be much better for the little guys.
If you MUST have a betta vase, remember he has to be fed special betta pellets everyday. And any plant will work, just wash off the dirt and stick the roots into the water.
Look at this site, it has lots of betta care information.

no it does not eat the plant!!! Betta fish are carnivores! It is probably lucky bamboo. You must feed the fish and clean the water. Do not leave the fish in there without any care.

You are probably talking about lucky bamboo stalks. The roots are only supposed to be partially submerged, in most cases, if left in water all the tome the plant will slowly drown. Bettas tend to be carnivores and will require feeding to survive.

The plant is called a calla lily, or a peace lily. The betta don't eat the roots but they love to hide in them!
