Iron Maiden most definatly, Much more technical of a band, dual leads always beat a lead and a rhythm, A opera trained lead vocalist. Also i admire a band that can make fun of themselves.

Metallica was great in the 80s, but the One video and the napster thing i lost much respect for them. (if anyone remembers their pledge to never sell out and make a video, also their desire for their music to be traded amounst people on poorly dubbed cassettes just so anyone who wanted to listen could). Also from the black album on has been a sell out to their old school fans, they went after the money, then kirk came out of the closet, lars.. Hell i dunno about him.. jason ditched them, and hetfeld.. turned into a Hatfield redneck.. The Load and Reload albums what were i figured they expected their fans to swallow.. The old albums I respected thoguh from Kill them All to And Justice For All

My vote goes for Metallica, even though Iron Maiden is very good too. However, I've never taken much liking to Maiden's "overly-smooth" style. The three guitarists play lightning fast but the sound of their guitars puts me off somewhat. There is no crunch and no heavy element within it even though they are playing heavy tunes. Dickenson's voice is operatic but is once again, too smooth and without raw agressiveness in the vocals.

Metallica, on the other hand, has been a real metal band until their Load album onwards. However, their earlier albums were masterpieces in my opinion. The production quality of Kill 'em All was very good during those days. Heaviness was present and James' voice was raw and angry. Kirk's solos were off the charts and pretty much blew people away. And then we've got Lars (what else do we need to say?) with his fast, precise and innovative drumming techniques.

Just some of my thoughts though :)

I would have to vote Metallica........even though I can't stand Lars after the Napster crap and James is arrogant and they haven't done any good music since Jason left the band.......but their older stuff rocks!!!
