There won't be any problems switching between the two messengers.
Now, aside from the fact that you have to register in two different places for the messenger programs, the only real difference between the two programs is that the Yahoo! messenger is customized for Yahoo!'s services. In other words, you have easier access to Yahoo!'s features.
Why do you want to use Microsoft's messenger? Is your Yahoo! connection bad?
You don't need to bother configuring and using both Messenger programs.

Theygo hand in hand. The two companies worked out a deal, and they work together now. So go ahead and download windows messenger. Remember: Yahoo IM and MSN IM = Harmony.
