Ok, now before anyone gets a chance to answer I didn't ask who is your favorite rapper I said who is, or was, the greatest. Now in my opinion I say there is no"GREATEST RAPPER" ,and I exclude the alive because that would be depriving one who was once considered the best but losing it by death or a minor career ending, but i say this cause there a thing called culture and if anyone is intelligent to elaborate on this and come up with an answer better than Jay-Z or EM or Lil Wayne, not to show any disrespect cause this goes for others as well, but every culture has something they like to do whether its shooting at an opposing force, pimping hoes, going to jail, or just selling "narcotics" they have someone they can relate to lyrically and they like listening to it cause they either want to do it or they are doing it but the reason I'm asking this question is because I'ma southern boi, excuse the misspelling but the vibe claims no one in the south is lyrically enclined I just want others.

Sister Souljah is my answer. your question was deep and I'm feeling ya. This sister didn't rap much but she came out with a book which Ive read 40-60 times.
Rozanne Shante would be next in my book. pioneer for the ladies and she took it to a higher level and didn't succumb to pitfalls mad respect for these ladies.

That's where all these good rappers are coming from is the south. I think the greatest rapper of all time would have to be Tupac or Notorious B.I.G. They were both very good. I think Tupac may have had a more real vibe with the world and what was going on in that time and still today in this time. B.I.G. had great music to dance to. But all in all these two would be running neck and neck. Their music may be the only one that our grandchildren still listen to and still know after all the others are gone.

Bo Diddley - still alive, last I heard. The rap-style boasting of "Who Do You Love", a wordplay on hoodoo, used many striking lyrics from the African-American tradition of toasts and boasts. His "Say Man" and "Say Man, Back Again" have been connected with rap - they feature the insults known as the Dozens: "You look like you been in a hatchet fight and everybody had a hatchet except you."

Greatest Rapper has to be Tupac. Everyone after his time and during his time wanted to be him. he created Gangsta rap as it is today. It began with NWA, but he made it. He rapped about everything, even becoming a full blown modern day civil rights leader through it. 2-Pac is and was the greatest. there would be no Jay, 50, Naz, Biggie (copied his style then), Snoop, you name it without Pac.

I have always said it ~ and I will continue to say it ~ Nas.. He's very talented, and influential. He came out with an excellent song and album at only 21 years old. ~ And I'm sure he did plenty more before that.
