Turns out, Mark Foley drinks and is now seeking help for alcoholism.

A little while back, The New York Times ran a weepy story about Patrick Kennedy, how he's "four months sober" and junk. (You'll recall, he was caught driving while under the influence last spring.) The story was some kind of "triumph of the human spirit" crap.

I wonder if, after Foley is four months sober, the New York Times will run a similar piece on him? That would be around end of January, beginning of February of next year. Let's wait and see. What do you think?

Interesting answers. I don't know if legally what Foley did was "pedophilia." The boy he flirted with was 16, 2 years short of adulthood. Also, are you all trying to say that sending lewd emails to a 16 year old is WORSE than driving while drunk? I'm not defending Foley, but Kennedy could have KILLED someone. It's unlikely that Foley would have caused anyone's DEATH. Very strange outlloks here. Luv Jack

Big difference. Alcoholics can be rehabilitated. They can stop drinking and have from then on a normal healthy life. Sexual predators will remain so for ever. 18 yrs ago I volunteered in a non-profit where we helped victims of violence and many of the children had been sexually abused ranging from harassed, molested and raped by adults. Whether you are 9, 13 or 16, you are scarred for life. Pray to God you never have a child of yours go through that because if you do, you will know what is lost after that, is the equivalent of some kind of death. At least when you are hit by a car, you may go quick. Some of the children in the group were under such emotional pain they turned to drugs, tried to kill themselves, run away and threw their lives away, and the list goes on. Your comment about sexual contact with children (and yes a 16 yr old is a child!) wheteher verbal or physical is very ignorant and a slap in the face to all children that have been abused in this way.

tiers of Coping for a Republican in the face of Scandal a million. Denial. Republicans not in any respect do some thing incorrect. 2. Anger. The Democrats set us up! They leaked this in simple terms to embarrass us! 3. Bargaining. yet Ted Kennedy and that one guy 10 years in the past were a lot worse so we are nevertheless the best adult males. 4. melancholy. 5. acceptance. properly ok, i guess our guy screwed up. No wait. that is Clinton's fault!

Strangely enough, going to alcohol rehab for a drinking problem makes some sense. Going to rehab to avoid charges of pedophilia is something else altogether. And isn't strange how the party who supposedly supports "family values" decided it was okay for Foley to have sex chats with underage boys?

Yeah right! I used to have a lot of respect for the New York Times until they hired a Black guy simply because he was Black, who had no credentials for the job and they printed all his made-up or plagiarized stories. THAT'S blown over, too.

Unfortunately, Kennedy is just a drunk who comes from a long line of drunks. Foley may be a drunk but he's also a pedophile. That's a lot worse!

time will tell, even the 20 hours since you posted, supporting pedophilia is just as bad as committing it, you walk a thin line with your comments

Unlikely, since Kennedy did not try to molest any underage boys.
