Children are always being educated at home by their parents. It's just a matter of what is being taught. Some children who are home school end up being basket cases, some grow up to be incredibly well adjusted successful people. And they do so in about the same ratio as those who are educated in public or private schools. The real question should be am I willing to do what is necessary to provide my child with a quality educational experience. Some parents are, and others are not. Remember that part of a parents responsibility is to teach children about life, therefore parents who choose to home school will need to insure that their children have plenty of opportunity for socialization. For most families this isn't really a problem because of all the activities children usually want to be involved in. But, for those living in isolated areas (rural areas with neighbors who are few and far between) this may present modest difficulties.
So, I guess my answer is that I disagree with the notion that children should never be educated at home by their parents. But I do think that there are parents who should never attempt to do so.

I am neither agreeing or disagreeing, but instead offer a different point of view. I homeschooled my son for a few weeks. It was extremely difficult. He was ADHD and we were always at odds with one another. So if you make the decision to homeschool, you had better be able to handle the daily sqabbles that will occur because you are at home. Can we play or put this off until later? and so on. You must also have a good curriculum and support group to help you. Depending on the age, you will need to be flexible in length of time spent on any subject. Your curriculum guidelines will be of help, however, you will need to be the judge of your child's attention. And, if you aren't good in certain subjects, you will need to have access to someone who can help you in those areas.
Also, homeschooling isn't just the basics, reading, writing, and arithematic, it is also about getting your child out to be with others his age. You will need to have that child involved in some type of program where he can interact with others. Be that a church group, 4-H, or any other organization. Also, if you home school an athelete, you will want to provide that child with an outlet for their particular sport. You will also want to take advantage of museums, libraries, historical events or places and incorporate these in with your curriculum.
Homeschooling may be the ideal avenue for some people. I know family and friends that have done this for years. I have friends that have homeschooled and are now sending their children to public school. What it boils down to is this, whatever works best for you. I'm sure that there are educators out there that would say no way to homeschooling and others who would say it works. It will work if you have the right mind set that this is a job that will require much preparation, patience, and guidance from others who have homeschooled and gotten along well. Check out all the options available, research all that you can. Good luck.

A school system provides children with other types of education, not only academic, such as social skills. They learn about other cultures and life styles.
Academically wise, not all families should homeschool their children; i guess it depends on the level of discipline they carry their lives with. Some kids may actually stay behind, other get ahead.

Never say never.
However, home-schooling usually produces damaged children.

I have homeschooled my son and he is great. He has tons of friends, he plays football, he scores in the 95th percentile on all the state exams we are required to do. He does volunteer work. And he is a regular twelve year old boy, who is interested in girls and the same music as his peers.
