Sociology affects everyone. Sociology deals with status and how you're viewed in society and such. A surgeon is a high paying position and he could be viewed in a "high" status. It could also play into the fact that he operates on different "levels" of people. If he knows that he's operating on someone who can't pay for it, he could have an attitude about it or look down on them. It plays a big part.
