This depends on where you live and how many times it runs down. Most batteries last between 5 - 7 years. That is why they a guraunteed for that amount of time. And that also depends on the quality of the battery.

Car Battery Life

It depends on the quality of the battery. I had a Hyundai and the battery died after 12 months. I had the dealer install a new one and the second one died 12 months later, almost to the day. Incidentally, they warranty their batteries for 12 months.
Other brands like Sears, Interstate, Delco are warrantied longer. I worked at a Ford place once and they warrantied their battery up to 8 years with full replacement through 5 years -- that's a good battery and at around $150 parts and labor it sounds expensive, but considering I spent $240 on batteries within two years, the Ford battery is a way cheaper deal -- and more assurance you won't be stuck out in the cold.

Depends on which make of the battery. Some batteries come with a guarntee, otherwise your car manual in the beginning of regular maintanice should say at how many kilometers/miles you should replace your battery. Since batteries are expensive, if you think you need a new battery take it too a local shop and get a battery test done (there cheap), for all you know it could be perfectly fine.

It seems like a new battery usually lasts 3-4 years. Letting a battery completely discharge can shorten it's life. For example: leaving headlights on all night. Extremes in weather can also play a role in the life of a battery.

it varies some 3 to 6 years longer if your lucky. plus it take a lot out of your battery when you drain it down. it will recharge but will never be the same.
