what is the diffrence between a regular cold sore and herpes?

I'm sorry to tell you this but there is no difference. If you have cold sore then it is caused by the herpes virus. there is no such thing as "a regular cold sore". Cold sores do not "regularly" occur in people who do not carry the herpes simplex 1 virus

A cold sore on your face is caused by the herpes simplex 1 virus (HSV-1) Genital herpes is herpes simplex 2 (HSV-2)- they are identical except that they tend to live in different parts of your body. You usually catch HSV-1 when you are a child - usually from your elderly realtives.

cold sores are caused by the herpes virus so esentially cold sores are herpes.
