Some companies can legally not hire you because of your DWI... any business associated with alcohol would also probably avoid you. As you can see, one mistake can really hurt. You can always go into business for yourself though and make a fortune. If you really want to be hired, I suggest the smaller firms... they have more flexibility. If you go to IBM with your record, they have thousands of applicants... yours gets tossed. But at a smaller company, you may be the only one to apply... or at least be in a smaller pool. Be sure to have some letters of recommendation written for you by your teachers, minister, mentor, etc. Sometimes you just need more voices to bring attention to your resume.

There may not be much of a relationship between your DWI and being unable to get a job. Read some good job hunting books such as 'Guerrilla Tactics in the Job Market', 'Hire Power', and 'Go Hire Yourself an Employer'. They're all old books, but there's a lot of wisdom in them. The key to finding a good job is doing deep research and letting the right people know you're looking.

I think Dino needs to back-off on her judgement. HOWEVER, you had no business driving while intoxicated. Such convictions are a matter of public record, and these days most companies do a background check on an applicant. If you omitted that arrest from your application, that's further grounds for not hiring you. A DUI is usually a felony, and you are required to report it on your job app.
So, your irresponsible and dangerous actions from the past are coming back to haunt you, honor student or not.
Good luck, and next time, be up front about your record. If you are, they might consider it a sign of maturity, or least honesty.

The job market is very hard. Your DWI won't affect you unless you are applying for a driving position.

Because you have a record. But someone will eventually hire, so don't give up.

If you've done your time (or whatever the court sentenced you to), it SHOULD NOT follow you around for the rest of your life.
...But it does.
